Twizel NZ is an alpine village situated in the Mackenzie District
in the South Island of New Zealand. Twizel is the closest
town to Mount Cook and the Tasman Glacier and setting for
many scenes from Lord of the Rings and many other movies.
Twizel is a fly fishing paradise with its many lakes and rivers
brimming with world record trout and salmon. |

AHURIRI
CONSERVATION PARK
Access to the park is via Birchwood
Road about 17 km west of Omarama township. River valleys
and wetlands in the park are outstanding habitat for
many species including the endangered black stilt/kaki,
black-fronted tern/tarapirohe, and wrybill/ ngutu-pare.

OHAU GOLF CLUB
Twizel golfers play along tree lined fairways where
once neither grass or trees existed. The Twizel 9
hole layup is set up for an 18 hole card over 5,345
metresPlayers welcome. Turn from State Highway 8 at
Twizel Township signs and follow signs to golf course.

HARD
LABOUR WEEKEND
The Twizel Hard Labour Weekend had its background
back in 1985 when a half marathon was started as a
fundraiser for kids sport. It has morphed through
a number of different events at different sites to
what we have today - three events (mountain bike,
kayak and off-road run) over two days.

COUNTRY SALMON
Floating on the glacial waters of Wairepo Arm, High
Country Salmon is ideally situated on State Highway
8 just south of the town of Twizel.
We offer visitors the opportunity to purchase salmon,
feed the fish, and take in the beautiful scenery.

Guided
Kaki/Black Stilt Tour -
Black stilts are the rarest wading bird in the world. Tours
at 9.30am and 4.30pm daily.
Walking - There is a wide variety of walking
trails, including the ‘round the town’ loop.
Ask for suggested routes at Twizel In-formation Centre.
Mini golf: - The Musterer’s Hut Café,
Ruataniwha Road, Twizel.
Tennis - Local tennis courts located behind
Twizel swimming pool. Free of charge. BYO rackets and balls.
Squash - There are two squash courts in
the Twizel Events Centre. Book and pay at Twizel Information
Centre. BYO rackets and ball.
Climbing Wall - The Twizel indoor climbing
wall is open Thursday nights from 7-9pm. Located in the
Twizel Events Centre. Harness supplied. Private sessions
